New Year, New You?

16 Jan

I thought this would be an appropriate time to write a message with this title, because by this time after the new year you are probably starting to feel like not much about you is new in this new year.

You brought in the New Year the way you wanted, with people you wanted to and took on the first few days after, excited about your plans, with thoughts in mind that you will achieve every single promise to yourself. These are called resolutions.

Resolutions can only be taken seriously, if you accept there is a problem. That something needs to be changed, fixed, to happen or to stop.

With my computer’s dictionary lookup tool missing, I scroll to synonyms for  “Resolution” and some of  them are: decree, declaration, decision, motion, ruling, promise, pledge, oath. So it’s safe to say that when these words are used on a professional basis it can be taken as a serious matter, as something definite until further actions are taken. So in that same manner we should apply a resolution to our individual lives. Until we obtain the desired results.

Years of the same continuous patterns indicate we may not take the word resolution that seriously. When a resolution is ordered, change occurs. But it requires action.

So take the time to think, it’s a new year, is it a new you? You can take this approach. It’s the same me, different year. I got one of the best ideas as far as goals, especially as it pertains to dreams, from a fortune cookie about a week ago. It stated simply, “Keep your plans secret for now.” Which is a good idea when we are starting something new. It may take time to see if you will stick with it, or have tried it just to find it wasn’t for you.

Whether you go at a resolution alone or with a team the same is required. Commitment, accountability and the physical work behind it. Whether you are starting a brand new business, taking on a new hobby, dropping a bad habit or doing something because you have the resources to do so. To obtain what you are expecting, which is the accomplished feeling of completing it, the same will be required. The work. Some of us are better workers with our minds, our hands, or exercising our spiritual works.  A team with all of these parts, could be a force. If you are facing a goal individually, don’t be discouraged, you’ll have to work harder in securing these elements. In the end of it, you’ll have uncovered a stronger you.

So half way through what seems like a never ending month, use each day to your advantage. Faith without works is dead, as it is written. But it is my belief, just the same works without faith is just as good as dead. Without faith you may be lead into giving up too soon, when maybe you shouldn’t have. Use the days like you use your steps. Just one at a time.

Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.  Proverbs 19:21

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Jesus Christ. Philippians 4:6-7
