Fall “In Love” with poetry

“The Beginning: Love Dreams”

AUGUST 22 2013 BLACKBERRY TORCH PICTURES 005

I looked into your face & there was the quiet, loving appearance, the presence & reflection of me. Of peace.

The noise in my life today didn’t exist for the moments I was in the same air as you

Nothing else mattered or distracted me from the love I know is inside of me.

I saw you.

It was only you & only me there

Everyday is a constant battle & the only beat, need in my heart is to have you.

Everyday I have to fight & be something that’s not quite

what I am,

And having you that close to my heart

Not being able to keep you in my arms

Let’s me know, that God is still holding on, to me

You & I at this moment

was only a glimpse

of what we’re destined to be

Years with you in my heart, you in my mind

To be face to face

to tell you “I Love You” & see your smile

I was your baby

& it wasn’t because of what the night made me

You are my dream, right before my eyes

These things only happen in dreams

& never come true

but that’s the only way I see it for me

I love you from my soul;

I was created to love you

passed how far love goes

You pulled me close to you,

your hand around my waist

With love, In Love

Our bodies combined as one

Together, no space.

I’m the woman you dream,

the woman you need

You & I, I see power

There is an agreement, heaven sealed when we touched

A very special hour

My heart fails me,

just when it feels it would give up

The sun shined differently, I was blessed, anointed, favored passed any luck

Too many words to tell you,

that I couldn’t say much

I wondered about you

many years, many days, many times before I got to see you in love.

I’ll keep you and need you

There is a day and time that my belief will guide me to be with you.

We are written in God’s every design. In words, in numbers, in life’s trial and triumph.

Many have known & God will have it no other way

That true love blossoms from as little as a baby

& you get it when you’re grown

I’ve put in on us since I discovered life, dreaming are meant to be connected

With you I discovered, I found that our love is still being perfected

Love will give our connection, every second, back that we were disconnected. Moving to me & towards you in the endlessness of a special blessing.

You are the man, the dream I saw, that I grew from a girl to a woman with.

With God constantly shaping me & directing me

He knew that nothing would get in the way

of you and me being together that day

You & me. Many never believe, until they see

When we are, finally,

The world will shift,

It will spin,

Differently.

I BELIEVE IN LOVE.

4 Tips for Pulling Kids Out of the October Slumps

Bolster your child’s motivation with these four ways to break from the homework norm.

It’s mid-October  and school has been in session long enough to make summer feel like a dream. The beginning of the year review gives way to new more difficult concepts. Extra-curricular activities can take up most of the weekend and leave little room for rest. I saw it as a teacher.  I see it now as a parent. At some point during the month, most kids feel the weight of it all and “slump.” They seem tired. They start complaining about going to school. They drag their way through activities.

The Slumps will eventually balance out, but in the meantime, here are a few ways to bolster your child’s motivation.

A Change of Scenery

Moving the location of everyday activities can shake things up just enough to make them fun.  When my daughter gets discouraged by a particularly large homework packet, I like to take her to a café to work on it. Sure, your kids still have to do their assignments. But going somewhere new, that isn’t the kitchen table, can make the work feel lighter and the day less taxing. If they usually go to child care at the gym, you could get your exercise outside with a family hike instead. Maybe you always read together at night before bed. Consider reading under the stars, in your own bed, or in the dark with a flashlight. Anything that adds adventure to routine will help your kids shake off the cobwebs.

Play Hooky

Jam-packed schedules can wear out the most tolerant person. Check your calendar for something you can skip without major consequences. As a teacher, I occasionally skipped our morning lesson and took my students out for a game of capture the flag.  That investment of forty-five minutes released so much tension, it upped their attention span for several days. Is there a soccer practice or a study group that your child could let go for a week? Give them time to wander around the house when they aren’t usually there. We all know the refreshing feeling of a few unplanned moments to do absolutely nothing.

Royal Treatment

In our house, and I’m sure in many others, TV and computer time is almost none existent during the school week. Each family has those prized privileges that motivate its members. Give them a special treat as a reward for so much effort these last few weeks. Even a thirty minute educational program or ten minutes later bed time can make them feel royal and lighten their outlook.

Take a Vacation … Sort of

We are lucky, we live near the beach. Every so often, we pick up the kids from school, pack up the grill and head down to the shore. It’s not always warm enough to swim, but just shuffling our feet in the sand and watching the waves makes it like summer. Three hours later, on our way home, everyone feels renewed, as if we’ve been out of town for a few days. Where does your family love to relax? Set aside a whole afternoon to take yourselves out of your lives and refresh. It’s almost as good as a weekend get-away. Almost.

You might read through this list and feel like none of it is possible. That’s okay! You know your family best. Get creative: a living room dance party, lunchtime school visits or notes, new kites to fly at the park.  You’ll find a way to give your kids a new outlook.

I woke up this morning feeling like I could run a Marathon, so I did!

11 Oct

10 24 11 001

10/12/2011 4:23p.m.

On Sunday October 9, 2011 I ran my very first marathon. The Chicago Marathon. It was a lot more than I expected being a first. I had no idea what I was in for when I started. More interesting than that was I didn’t even expect that I would be running a marathon. It was all by surprise. I saw a crowd of people running down the street, then something urged me to join in. So when I did, my son and me, I figured I would only go a little way, more than what I would usually run and then that would be it. But every mark I met I felt like I could go a little further.

Along the way the cheering onlookers, cheerleaders and race aids were very helpful. They encouraged the marathoners, plus there were teams of people a 1/2 mile or so apart with water, Gatorade, and energy shots. Then there were the snack people handing out pretzels and bananas and other fruit that provided energy to go on.

Running with a child at the pace that he walks was another challenge in itself. When I wanted to go faster I couldn’t. Helping me to remember to stay paced. (to take it in) It’s no rush. And simply because I was nowhere near the end. :)

Plus he really enjoyed the snacking part.

He got a lot of cheers for doing as well as he was. Being that anything over 2 or 3 miles might be considered an achievement, especially for a walking child. I was very proud of him. And I personally cheered him on along the way.

I wish I could say we went through the entire race nonstop like a scene from a movie, but there were several breaks. At one point I came to grasps with finishing, and that would be enough for me, right now.

Nearing the end of the race when I could hear the famous musical score from the movie Rocky, I got excited for myself and realized what I had done.

Up the path on Roosevelt then around the corner on Columbus Drive was a huge sign that read “FINISH” glaring in my eyesight. I couldn’t look at anything else at that moment. As I was running towards it, with the sounds of people applauding on both sides of me, I’m sure some looking in amazement (at a child in a marathon, and the fact that I had him with me, walking).  I started to feel like something else was going on here .

At the end when I stood across the finish line, while the medallion holder insisted twice for me to come by her to receive a medal, an unregistered runner, clearly without a number. While other people’s causes for running were clear on their number tags my purpose I presume was clear. As my “red” Gap shirt read I was “INSPI(RED).” I was running because I was inspired, and apparently to inspire.

As she put the medal around my neck I knew that God was speaking to me. Letting me know that the race I was running in this particular time and place in my life was over. I was finish. It wasn’t because of top of the game athleticism or because I had been running during the Spring/ Summer that guided me to this race, but the spirit of God with an important message.

I can remember not even liking to run, but when I see the results that came with it, and the circumstances under which I had to run, every time with my son, it helped me to work harder. To use the slower pace to work my thighs and stomach more.

The message to me was clear: Before you did it because you had to do it, now you’ll do it because you can. When God inspires you and then works with you directly from Him to you, it feels very special. It’s not always easy, but being pursued like that and the attention makes me feel worth more than I can explain.
I complained and said I wasn’t going to do it sometimes, but the hard times (discipline) was all for the greater good for me. When you get where you wanted to go, want more. When dreams come true, dream some more, dream again. When you meet accomplishments, aim even higher.

In anything in life, the good thing about running is that you have to start walking. Whether you’re physically running, or running a business. Don’t be mad at walking. You have to start somewhere.

Many women while I was running were inspired. Even when I’m just running down the street. During the race a lady mentioned how I had inspired a friend of hers watching too. And I thought, I didn’t have to say anything and somebody was inspired. Then I realized, sometimes it’s not always your mouth that God is looking to use and speak through, but your life.

Some tips for running:

The key to running anywhere and anytime is to dress for it. This is a personal technique of mine. And that doesn’t mean hardcore race gear. Sweats, a light shirt and gym shoes. Wherever there is ground you can walk and run. Also depending on the weather. There is a way to run in every season, only if you want to.

Travel lightly, keys that clip on to your clothes and a small wallet if you think you will stop while you are out. Don’t buy anything counterproductive to the results you want. Even if you are not there yet. Habits make a big deal when it comes to getting results. And some of them need to be broken. To help avoid the temptation it might be better to leave money and debit cards at home. So you can stay focus.

Be positive, don’t let hard times and hard spots discourage you. Whenever you slack off, just get back. Every time. Don’t have a pity party with food.

You can do exercises at home. Learn from the gym, if you go and do the homework. Do a little bit everyday.  Whenever you have time work on something.

Don’t need somebody else to get started and to continue. Start by walking and adding a little more each time. Don’t overdo it the first time so that you don’t ever want to go back.

A main issue for women is worrying about who’s watching and looking at them. Some people smile, some will roll their eyes, the key is to smile anyway and keep moving.

Whenever you find excuses or “reasons” not to, or simply why you can’t, let your feet start moving you until your mind catches up.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Breastfeeding!

2 Oct

OCTOBER IS BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO DIDN’T KNOW.

WITH SO MANY CAUSES AND AWARENESS DATES TO LOOK OUT FOR WE CAN OFTEN LOOK AT SOME CAUSES AS IF THEY AREN’T AS IMPORTANT AS THE NEXT.

BREAST CANCER…..AWARENESS! IT SOUNDS FRIGHTENING FROM AFAR, BUT ONCE YOU REALIZE THE SIGNIFICANCE IN MAKING SURE THAT THIS SPECIFIC BODY PART HAS THE EXAMINATIONS THAT IT REQUIRES TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY STATUS, YOU FIND THE BEAUTY IN CELEBRATING BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.

TO BRING FORTH AWARENESS IS TO EDUCATE YOURSELF OR SOMEONE WITH CERTAIN INFORMATION TOWARD THE PROCESS OF BEING EXAMINED AND THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY DETECTION.

EVERY YEAR WHEN WOMEN ARE SCHEDULED TO BE EXAMINED FOR THEIR ANNUALS DOCTORS WILL PERFORM A PHYSICAL HAND EXAMINATION ON YOUR BREASTS AND TELL YOU TO DO THE SAME WHEN YOU ARE LYING ON YOUR BACK IN BED.

SELF EXAMINATION IS AN EFFECTIVE METHOD IN DETECTING LUMPS IN YOUR BREASTS CANCEROUS OR NONCANCEROUS.  AS WELL AS MAMMOGRAMS WHICH DOCTORS WILL USUALLY SAY ARE FOR WOMEN 40 OR OLDER UNLESS INDICATED OTHERWISE.*

Blackberry phone August 21, 2009 003 Breast Feeding for Breast Cancer Awareness: After my son was born, not being sure if I would nurse him as a baby, seeing his face and months of prenatal doctor visits help me to realize that breastfeeding might really be the best start for him. So I decided I would go through with it. It sounded a lot easier than it really was I must add. The very first week of it was the hardest. My body had to adjust to the changes of feeding another human being everyday…….ALL DAY. And this continued everyday for the first 5 1/2 months of his life. There were no formulas. He had pure breast milk. I felt good about that part. Also appreciating that it lowered my risks of breast cancer.  So today when I realize this accomplishment, I feel proud and can easily celebrate my breasts. Breastfeeding is the best start for your children & it lowers your risk of breast cancer. A 2-in-1 cause. Blackberry phone August 21, 2009 006 002 Blackberry phone August 21, 2009 001

2013 AUGUST PICTURES TORCH BLACKBERRY 011JUNE 2013 BLACKBERRY PICTURES 005This is a poem I wrote a while ago about breastfeeding & breast cancer awareness:

Breastfeed the babies,

That’s what they were made for

Thank God that He can restore

It increases the baby’s health & development

And reduce the risk of breast cancer in yours

Before formulas, God equipped me

Those precious, priceless moments of bonding, and my baby’s best start, that I’ll always have with me

& no worries about the girls (your breasts)

They’ll bounce back and once again be ‘Sitting Pretty.’
