Caleb and Me: Education, learning and fun, all in one

6 Feb

The older my son gets, I enjoy the different ways we interact. Having to continue to learn him.  As a baby he needed me for everything although I was always observing to learn how he learns including his likes and dislikes. Babies often voice themselves in certain noises, movements or cries. My son didn’t cry very much at all, he barely cried at birth. He was always aware, listening and learning. One of the things he took notice of early on was knowing that I was always watching him to know how to entertain him and make him happy. So he made everyone around us at the time, do it as well. As we watch the home videos, they realize they enjoyed it just as much as he did. One of the things he also made me realize is that I wasn’t going to be a “frozen fish sticks and canned/frozen veggies” kind of mom. A child can’t be raised off of that! LOL! Even as a young mom, I had to learn to cook full course meals. With kids they start off with them just needing you, when they are born and in their baby and toddler stages. As they get older. you realize that you are learning just as much from them as they should be from you. Positively influencing them as they grow.

Learning time plus fun! Movies and books are still a must-do no matter how much technology advances. Games are not the only things downloaded on his ipad and iphone.

Cooking time! Caleb is baking his first batch of cookies on his Easy-Bake-Oven. They have them for boys as well. The portions are a bit small and I’ve thought about mixing up a batch of cookies from my recipes & ingredients, but it’s fun for him. He likes to chef!

Playing monopoly, when Christmas came this past year the idea was to educate but to make sure that it was all in fun! Caleb is the banker, playing the game for himself and watching a movie at the same time. (Multi-tasking)  When we play monopoly he likes the idea of buying property and having me roll the dice and stop on his property to pay him rent. It’s not so fun when it’s the other way around.

Here we are mixing the ingredients to build his very first volcano. We had a lot of fun with this. Especially when it was time to peel it off of our hands and out of of my cooking pot. Molding the ingredients into a volcano was exciting. His favorite part was when it dried!……

So, that he could make it erupt! He asks if he can keep it forever. So far, it’s still here.

The first big snow, we were at the playground, playing in it! We’re waiting for when it snows and we will make an adventure of it with everyone! Once back inside we had our mugs filled to the top with yummy hot chocolate! & several servings of whipped cream . Yum!
